Light Up CenterStage!

I've been to this fundraiser in past years, and let me tell you, it's a dessert lover's dream come true. They usually serve some nice dessert cheeses to counterbalance the sugar and chocolate. But the best part is the musical entertainment up on the stage. It will be hard to top last year's performances, but John Leffert promises this one will be the best yet. Don't miss it!

CenterStage’s 5th annual fundraiser Light Up CenterStage will be held on Sat., Nov. 14 at the Jewish Community Center (JCC), 3600 Dutchmans Lane, starting at 7:30 pm. The event includes an open bar, dessert buffet and a silent and live auction.

CenterStage’s silent auction will include a laptop computer and a Kindle, Derby event tickets, theatre tickets, original art, an overnight stay at 21c and an overnight stay in French Lick.

Proceeds from Light Up CenterStage and the online auction will be used to finance new sound and lighting equipment for the Linker Auditorium and allow CenterStage to maintain fair and reasonable ticket prices so that all members of the community can enjoy and appreciate the arts. Tickets cost $75 with a portion being tax deductible. To reserve your seats or table today call (502) 238-2739.

Bullitt County Arts Council's 5th Annual Gala

What: Dinner, Entertainment and Fundraiser for Scholarships and Arts Events in Bullitt County.
When: Saturday Evening Nov. 7, 2009 Reception: 6:00 PM, Show at 7:00 PM
Where: Paroquet Conference Center - Shepherdsville

The Bullitt County Theatre's Murder Mystery Ensemble will perform Who Did The Don In?
The play, written by Bill Breuer, is a "u-solve-it" Dinner Murder Mystery, and this is an "invitation" you can’t refuse! It's an abbreviated version of a mini-mystery - created and presented in spaced, short segments so you can enjoy your meal and have pleasant conversation. But be aware that there may be a murder… it could be a stabbing, a poisoning, a garroting or a shooting. Funds raised from this gala are used by the Bullitt County Arts Council to fund local scholarships and arts events in the county.

Call (502) 921-3210 for reservations or questions. See bullittarts.org for more details.

Witches add ingredients to a cauldron in this woodcut of 1489

Thomas Middleton's THE WITCH

Savage Rose Classical Theatre Company is presenting The Witch just in time for Halloween. The next in their play reading series "Words, Words, Words," has been called one of the first "tragicomedies". Written around 1616, the play explores love and intrigue in the midst of spells, potions, and witchcraft. A delightful yet rather dark piece written by one of Shakespeare's most important proteges. The reading will be this Monday, October 26th, at 7:00pm at Walden Theatre, 1123 Payne Street, 40204. A $1-$5 donation is appreciated, but not mandatory. Light refreshments will be available.

On edit: I forgot to remind everyone that the final performances of The Tragicall History of Doctor Faustus are this week. If I were you, I would not miss this show. Dr. Matthew Biberman, Assistant Professor for the U of L English Department, will give a pre-show lecture at 6:45pm on Wednesday, October 28th. The lecture is included in the ticket price. There will be talk backs after the show on October 29th and 30th.
